Johnny Depp uses an electric cigarette in his new movie The Tourist

As I was watching the online trailer for new Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp movie The Tourist, one scene in particular caught my eye. It was the scene in which Jolie is on a high speed train searching for a guy to set up. I'm not going to go in great detail about the movie, but in short she sees Depp as a perfect target and sits down right across from him. Depp, who plays a rather modest character, is sitting down reading a spy novel and puffing on an electric cigarette. He was unprepared to have the beautiful Angelina Jolie sit down next to him, so he appears somewhat nervous.

During Depp's conversation with Jolie he keeps puffing on an electronic cigarette. It at first appears as if he's smoking a tobacco cigarette but if you look closer, you will notice that the vapor disappears into thin air and, to confirm that it's an electronic cigarette, the camera shot occasionally includes a "no smoking" sign. It is no surprise to me that Hollywood is catching on with the electronic cigarette. Hollywood is generally never behind when it comes to innovative products; however, in Johnny Depp's case, the use of the electric cigarette may be more personal than it is a fad. There have been some articles stating that Depp's sister and mother could not stop smoking tobacco cigarettes until they were introduced to the electric cigarette. In addition, Depp resides in the United Kingdom where electronic cigarettes are significantly more popular than here in the United States.

In addition to Johnny Depp, other celebrities have been seen using electronic cigarettes. Celebrities of note include Leonardo DiCaprio, baseball/reality star Jose Canseco, and hottie Katherine Heigl.
