NBA superstar Joe Johnson has accepted the offer of the Hawks for a $119 million six-year contract to stay with the team and help them get its first ever championship in the next NBA season. The acceptance of Johnson of its offer assured the Hawks of a player who can give them superb offence and defence in the next season of the premier professional basketball league in the planet. As the franchise player of the Hawks the past five years, Johnson had lead his team consistently to the NBA playoffs and made the franchise one of the top young teams in league. A 13-win team the season before he arrived, the Hawks doubled that the next season and went 53-29 in 2009-10 before getting swept by Orlando in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The superstar guard has a modest average of 21.3 points during in the last NBA regular season but played poorly during that series, creating speculation he may have cost himself max dollars. Despite his bad playoff performance the Hawks and other NBA teams have targeted Johnson during the off-season since he is one of the top players available in the NBA free-agency market. Johnson decided to accept the offer of the Hawks after sensing that the team is very determined to get him to continue playing for the team for years to come. He said despite being a young team the Hawks has the tools to become a champion if they will work hard for it. Now that he will remain a member of the team for six more years, Johnson revealed he will help the NBA franchise acquire another quality player during the NBA off-season.
