Jongomero Camp In The Ruaha National Park

Jongomero camp offers a really remote African safari experience

. A visit to the Ruaha National Park in Tanzania is a perfect location for a traditional undisturbed African Safari.

Although the Ruaha is the second largest national park in Tanzania, it is also the least well-known and therefore not often visited. Yet to safari enthusiasts it is without a doubt one of the most spectacular and beautifully untouched parts of Africa.

The Ruaha covers a conservation area of more than 10,000 square kilometres in the south-west of the Tanzania, it sprawls within and along Africa's Great Rift Valley.

The habitats in the Ruaha are diverse and offer vast open rolling plains to thick inhospitable bush. Here is the middle of what seems like the furthest point on earth you can relax your eyes on the tranquil bubbling of the river to the tremendous thundering herds of buffaloe that stir a heavy cloud of dust as they make their way through the acacia woodlands, Ruaha is dramatic and raw and rarely disappoints.

Amidst this magnificent untouched safari setting is Jongomero Camp, a luxury safari camp in Tanzania which is set out under the shady acacia trees on the banks of the Jongomero Sand River in the remote south-western sector of Ruaha. Being the only Camp situated in this area of the Park Jongomero Camp ensures unmatched privacy.

Jongomero has eight large and well-appointed tented suites, under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private veranda. All eight tents are raised up on wooden platforms, spaced along the river bank. All are large and stylish and the word 'tent' does not do Jongomero justice. Inside there are high-quality furnishings on polished wooden floors and special touches throughout to create a luxury feeling in the bush.

The dining and living areas have fantastic vantage points to surround yourselves with the sights and sounds of the African busharound camp, as does the natural rock pool to cool off in the mid day sun.

In the dry season the river's bed infront of camp is completely dry; you can sit on your veranda and enjoy watching a variety of animals searching for water. Elephants frequently wander past, digging into the sand, trying to tap into the water beneath the riverbed.

Just as relaxing are Jongomero's main lounge and dining room which have polished wooden floors, plump sofas and Persian rugs underfoot. Jongomero is a luxury option for a stay in Ruaha, yet its high thatched roofs, and odd bits of traditional African furniture and art, somehow keeps Jongomero in touch with Africa and the safari atmosphere.
