Kat Hing Wai An Ancient Attraction Of Greatness

The Kat Hing Wai is a renowned walled village

, which is almost 500 years old and is known to be the property of the Ming Dynasty. The attraction is still inhabited by people of the Tang Clan and is a prominent place with an abundance of tradition, culture and history. Blue brick walls and a plethora of trees surround the establishment. The Tang is one of the five clans who settled in the New Territories of China and they were known as Hakka people; an extensive introduction to their culture could be attained whilst at the village.

Travellers to this early settlement can explore its ancient artefacts, its cannon towers and many other interesting objects. The Kat Hing Wai was also known as a place where wild tigers would roam the plains. Sightseers to this date can still see a tiger or two lurking in the wild jungles. However, many years after this place was built, a number of new houses were constructed around it.

Every ten years a religious festival is held by the Tang. After the one held in November 2005, the next will be in November 2015. All the Tangs living in neighbouring villages join in for the festival and celebrate it in fine style. They contribute to a communal fund of the clans and the festivals and meals are held on a ticket basis; they have to buy tickets to participate. Tourists can watch the Lion and Dragon dances but they are not invited to eat from the food served to the Tang. However, there will be a variety of dining options should you wish to dine whilst enjoying the festivities.
