Trying to clean a room with dirty or old equipment often makes the mess worst. Instead of running to the store to purchase another mop or broom, try cleaning the tools yourself. This will save you a lot of money and energy.

Here are a few ways on how to clean the things that do all the dirty work in your home:

Vacuum Cleaners

Begin by unplugging all the hoses and connections. Looking at your product manual will help the most during this step. Take a clean, soft dish towel and run it through each opening. Wash the outside of the cleaner with a mild soap and water (and be sure to wipe dry).

Empty the dirt bag or replace it with a new one. Remove any debris from the brush rollers on the bottom. Canned air is also a good tool to use on vacuum cleaners.

Toilet Brushes

Boil some water and then add 1 cup of bleach. Let the toilet brush sit for approximately 1 hour.

Dishwashers

Give your dishwasher a break every now and then. On it's off day, clean the inside with a white vinegar rinse. Either pour it in the bottom of your machine or add it to the dispenser cups before starting.

Dusters

Take the duster outside and tap it against a railing or stoop to shake dust free. You can also hand wash it in cold water and then hang to dry.
