Kenya has a tropical climate which makes it very conducive as a home for wildlife. The climate is hot and humid in the coast region and very dry in the north. The central part of the country is a bit cool and enjoys adequate amounts of rainfall. The region is usually hot in during the day and cool at night. It has two seasons of rainfall. These are the long rains which are in April to June and the short rains which are in October to December. The Great Rift Valley that passes through the Kenyan highlands makes it also very fertile. It has also born many fresh and salt water lakes such as Lake Bogoria and Lake Nakuru. The animals are normally found ion the great savanna regions of the country such as the Masaai Mara. A number of game parks and game reserves have been opened to help conserve this great wildlife heritage. Poaching had been a great problem in the past threatening the existence of the elephants and the rhinos. This has since been banned and the population of the two is rising steadily. The most popular animals in the region are the lion, 'King of the Jungle', the elephant, the buffalo, the leopard and the rhino. These make up the big five community. They are normally found in the savanna grasslands where there is a lot of food and water available. The wildebeest's migration which takes place in the months of June and September is now the 8th wonder of the world. Kenya gets a lot of tourists during this season.
