Key Easy Ways To Replace Front And Rear Bestop Bumpers
It is easy to replace your bestop bumpers, both the front and rear
. You need not drive with damaged bumpers or rush to the mechanic every now and then. Replacing old bumpers with new ones renews the rusty and damaged look. To change the front and rear bumpers, a few basic things are needed:
A Philips screwdriver
Socket and ratchet
Penetrating fluid
Jack and jack stands
Changing the Front Bestop Bumper
1.Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the plastic jeep cover. You will need the screws later when reinstalling the cover so store them safely. Use jacks to raise the front of the jeep and safely position them on jack stands then remove the jacks.
2.The front bestop bumper is kept in place by four bolts, two of which are on top while the other two are at the bottom. Use a socket and a ratchet to remove the four bolts. To ease removal of the bolts, you can spray them with penetrating fluid. Store the bolts safely as you will use them when mounting the new bumper. You are then set to remove the bumper off the frame rails.
3.Mount the new bestop bumper onto the frame rails. Slide the bumper until the bolts are aligned. Mount the bolts and tighten them using the socket and ratchet. Turn the handle so as to set the torque wrench to line up to 77. This is the ideal number a jeeps front bumpers foot pounds should have. Pull slowly and evenly to torque the bolt until it clicks.
4.After installing the new bumper, put the jeep cover back on and use the Philips screw driver to tighten the screws.
Replacing the Rear Bestop Bumper
1.Raise the jeeps rear using a jack and place it on jack stands for support. When it sits securely on the jack stands remove the jack.
2.Just like the bestop front bumper, the rear bestop bumper is kept in place by four bolts. The four bolts hold the bumper fastened to the jeeps rear. Use the socket and ratchet to remove both lower mounting bolts on either side of the bumper. You can spray them for ease of removal and in case they are rusty.
3.Do the same with the two upper mounting bolts on either side of the bestop bumper. Remove the bumper from the jeeps body. Align the new bumper against the body and mount the upper mounting bolts. Avoid tightening them yet.
4.Install on each side of the bumper the two lower mounting bolts. Using racket and socket tighten the four mounting bolts. Use a torque wrench to torque the bolts to 41 pounds-feet. Use the jack to remove the jack stands and lower your jeep down.
