Key Thinking Points When Considering An Attic Conversion
As we are all fully aware Britain has been in the midst of a double dip recession for some time now
. All we see in the news is the latest news on the shrinking economy, increasing inflation and increasing unemployment. All this leads to a nation struggling to progress. Young, well educated and well trained members of the public are finding it difficult to secure suitable work and in turn having no chance of climbing the property ladder.
Property prices are falling slightly from the astronomic heights that they once were; however, it has never been so hard to get on to the first rung of the ladder. It appears that we must make do with what we can and in that spirit it seems only right to do what we can to make the most of the space that we have got. Converting a loft space seems like a lot of hard work for what many people see as a small box room in the roof.
The reality is the idea of extending the loft is a brilliant one. With the techniques and skills that are available today the transformation can be dramatic. So now that you have been convinced, where do you start?
Well, first of all you need to get your tape measure out. Climb up into your roof space and measure from the bottom of the joist to the top of the apex. If this distance is not above 2.4m then you seriously have to consider your budget. If it is not above this measurement then the team conducting you conversion will have to lower the ceiling of the floor below.
This is not necessarily a reason to stop the build, as you need to work out the figures. An extension like this has been known to add as much as 100,000 to the value of a property so you really need to do some extensive research. Think about how much you can afford to spend to complete the extension and then work out how much the finished article can add onto your property.
Obviously there is no exact science to working out a figure like this but you have to use educated projections to decide what the room will be used for and how the interior decorating that you are planning will add to the sell-on value of your home.
If you are not interested in selling the property and can afford to complete the change then this is the best way to spend the money, you will not regret it.
