Keyword Ranking Tool - Golden Rule 1 - Traffic
This article is the first of a four-part series which discusses the Four Golden Rules
of Keyword Research and how they relate to the New Methodology of Keyword Research using the Market Samurai Keyword Tool (MSKRT).
Golden Rule 1 - Traffic
A substantial number of online niches have traffic which is too low and will be foolhardy to even pursue. But sometimes, there are those who blindly pursue a niche because they have a personal interest on it or have been led to believe that it had some potential.
Organic search results are what a search engine will return against a keyword search made. This list is totally different from the non-organic list which is based on the Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertiser for a certain keyword.
With the MSKRT, we can easily find the keywords which have a significant levels of traffic. The values for Total Search and SEOT are based on Google's organic search. MSKRT gives the number of daily searches made, as opposed to monthly searches made on the Google site.
In terms of the Google search, studies reveal the click potential results with respect to ranking. The following lists the "click potential" of the top ten rankings:
The number 1 ranked website receives 42.1% of clicks.
The number 2 ranked website receives 11.9% of clicks.
The number 3 ranked website receives 8.5% of clicks.
The number 4 ranked website receives 6.1% of clicks.
The number 5 ranked website receives 4.9% of clicks.
The number 6 ranked website receives 4.1% of clicks.
The number 7 ranked website receives 3.4% of clicks.
The number 8 ranked website receives 3.0% of clicks.
The number 9 ranked website receives 2.8% of clicks.
The number 10 ranked website receives 3.0% of clicks.
This eventually means that the top ranking site does not always get the final click after a search; and that the lower ranking sites also enjoy a share on the clicks.
The MSKRT has a setting called SEOT which is the maximum daily clicks that the top-ranked site for each keyword term could potentially achieve. Rather than using Total Searches for a keyword, our option is to actually to use SEOT. Because this is the maximum number of clicks that the top-ranked keyword could achieve. If you think about it, this makes better sense than using Total Searches which (as it now turns out) is hardly an indicator of a keywords full potential within a day.
The Trends column provides a representation of the monthly clicks for each keyword. The first upright relates to January and the last one to December. The bars reflect the seasonal potential of keywords. The trend column is useful in targeting seasonal keywords such as Halloween (which peaks on November) and Christmas (which peaks on December).
MSKRT Recommended Setting, to be in responsive to Golden Rule 1 - Traffic: Set SEOT = 80 clicks per day.
