Kindle Fire Vs. Nook Tablet The Fight Is On!
The Nook Tablet, which runs Googles Android 2.3x Gingerbread operating system
, has declared war on Amazons Kindle Fire. Nook fired the first shot when Barnes and Noble announced at an event in New York City this morning its new Nook Tablet, a more robust version of B&Ns popular Nook Color e-reader. The new Nook Tablet comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, which is twice the RAM of the Kindle Fire. It sports a 7-inch, laminated IPS Vivid View LG display, with a 1024600 resolution and weighs just under one pound. Another piece to fight the Kindle Fire is that the Nook Tablet has 16GB of internal storage, which is more than that of the Kindle Fire, and can be expanded an additional 32GB via a microSD card slot. It also comes pre-loaded with Netflix and Hulu Plus. The announced price is $249, $50 more than the Kindle Fire.
Amazon fired back today and announced it also has Netflix, Pandora, as well as a number of other apps. This shortens the list of advantages that Nook claims it has over the Kindle. Nook still has a small advantage since it offers Hulu Plus and more storage, but probably not enough to make it worth the extra $50.
The Kindle Fire will come with lots of apps. These apps include Facebook, Pandora, Netflix, Rhapsody, Twitter, Comics by comiXology, The Weather Channel, and select games from Zynga, EA, Gameloft, PopCap, and Rovio. The Kindle also supports more book formats (Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively, DOC, DOCX, Audible), while the Nook only supports EPUB, PDF, DOC, TXT, DOCM, and DOCX.
We started talking to app developers everywhere the day we introduced Kindle Fire, and the response has been overwhelming, Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. In addition to over 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, and magazines from Amazon, we are excited to offer customers thousands of apps and games to choose from on Kindle Firefrom Pandora and Rhapsody to Facebook and Twitter to Netflix, as well as popular games from EA, Zynga and many other top game developers. And this is only the beginningwere adding more apps and games every day across all categories.
Which tablet do you want? I am aiming toward the Amazon Kindle Fire. I have the 2nd Generation Kindle now and love it. I am hoping that the Kindle tablet due out in early 2012 will have a camera and be more along the lines of the iPad2. I am reluctant to consider the Nook due to the precarious position of Barnes & Noble filing bankruptcy. What about you? Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet?
