Know Where To Go For Cheap Barcelona Hotels And Free Attractions
If youre travelling to Europe on a budget, you cant go wrong with a break away in Barcelona
. This Spanish city is popular for its beach location, charming culture, great sights and warm weather, but best of all, its relatively inexpensive to to have a holiday there. From cheap flights, hotel deals and low-cost restaurants, as well as many cheap - and free - attractions and sights. If you know where to go and what to see, you could easily explore the best of Barcelona without spending anything at all.
Architecture can be enjoyed for free, and Barcelona has some beautiful and famous buildings. Gaudis incredible La Sagrada Familia is one most people come to Barcelona to see, for its unique design and breathtaking beauty. The building was actually never finished, but its originality and importance to art has earned its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Two of the towers are accessible to visitors, as well as the nave, crypt and museum. There is also the beautiful gothic Barcelona Cathedral, or Cathedral of the Holy Cross, a 15th-century church dedicated to Saint Eulalia, a 13-year-old martyr who is also the co-patron saint of Barcelona. Saint Eulalias remains are kept in the crypt and her young age is marked by the thirteen live white geese which are kept within the cathedrals cloister. Visitors can enter the cathedral free of charge and visit her tomb, and the impressive vaulted interior, or admire the gargoyles on the outside of the building.
Two failsafe ways to see a city without spending a penny is to take in its museums. With world-famous art, educational exhibitions or fascinating subjects covered by a variety of museums, youll find no two places are the same. Many are free to enter, and even those which are not will still offer free entry on certain days of the month. You just need to know where to go, and when, but most Barcelona hotels and information centres will be able to advise you. Barcelona has many museums but two worth noting are the popular Museu Picasso - where you can view an impressive collection of the artist Picassos work- or the one-of-a-kind Museum of Chocolate, which boasts incredible chocolate sculptures of famous Spanish buildings, and is free to visit on the first Monday of every month.
Walking costs nothing, and yet its the best way to get to know a city. Visitors to Barcelona will certainly enjoy a stroll along the world-famous Las Ramblas - a 1.2km pedestrianised street which is busy with street entertainers, shops, and stalls. The Boqueria food market is always thriving. While the popularity of Las Ramblas, coupled with there being many close by, makes this a very busy area, it is one of the defining attractions of the city of Barcelona and should not be missed. If the weather is particularly good you should take a walk around the Parc de la Ciutadella, a 70 acre park which houses a zoo, two museums, and a lake among other attractions. It is a popular spot for tourists keen to enjoy the outdoors, with activities including boating on the lake, or cycle hire, although walking or having a picnic are great free options.
