Know Your Spa Etiquette

Getting the chance to go to a spa can make anyone feel healthy

, cleansed, pure, peaceful, comforted, and overall more relaxed. When you go to the spa there are some rules of etiquette that you should be aware of to keep the spa a relaxing place for you as well as others.

First, keep in mind that the spa is a place for relaxation, peace, and quiet. Keep in mind that when entering treatment areas and rooms, you'll get the most out of the experience if you stay quiet.

While at the spa take the time to breathe deeply, absorb the relaxing air to its fullest, bring a good book for down times, while saving the loud laughter and talk with friends for meals and away time.

To keep the peace and quiet, be sure to turn off your cell phone when you go into the spa. It will allow you the chance to take some time away from the normal routine, while keeping the atmosphere in the spa quiet and relaxing.

The best way to deal with cell phones is to turn them off when you arrive at the spa and leave them off until you return home. The essence of a spa is utter relaxation for you and other people that are attending the spa. So if you are taking the time to go to the spa then you should take the time to turn off your cell phone.

Second, keep in mind that it is polite to tip. Individuals can vary their tipping amount depending on service quality, when in a group it is standard to tip at least a standard 15%.

Third, be sure to check with the spa for their general policy and ambiance on nudity. Some destination spas or resorts offer services where you and others may be partially or fully nude, such as steam rooms, mud bath areas, along with other spa areas.

Fourth, schedule spa appointments in advance. By scheduling spa appointments several months in advance you will ensure that you get all the services you want at a time that you can commit to.

This is especially important if you are going to a destination spa, where you need to reserve a room to sleep in as well. When going with a group to the spa you should be sure to schedule your appointments even earlier so that you can all get the services scheduled at the times your groups want.

Scheduling massages and other treatments simultaneously or around the same time allows you to go into the pools, steam rooms, and other activities together at the same time. Not to mention, by scheduling appointments timed closely together, you can plan other activities before and after the spa service time.

When you do this, the whole group can continue to enjoy the trip together. The whole experience can be planned better to set each day's agenda around the spa appointments and other highlights.

If you follow the basic etiquette of the spa you will be able to have a successful and relaxing spa experience.
