A number of first responders and residents of the New York are still suffering because of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The US government has passed the Zadroga law to provide benefits and compensation to the victims of the attacks.

Zadroga law is a special US act with the full name of Zadroga Health and Compensation Act of 2010. Zadroga law was passed by both the Houses of US Congress the, the House of Representatives and the Senate in December 2010. It received the Presidential Assent when it was signed by President Obama on 2 Jan 2011. Zadroga law will provide considerable financial assistance to victims and first responders of the tragedy.

Title 33, subtitle A, subsection (a) of Zadroga law reads "medical monitoring and treatment benefits to eligible emergency responders and recovery and cleanup workers (including those who are Federal employees) who responded to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks; and initial health evaluation, monitoring, and treatment benefits to residents and other building occupants and area workers in New York City who were directly impacted and adversely affected by such attacks."

This means that Zadroga law benefits are not just available to first responders but are also partly available to the residents of the area provided that they were directly impacted and adversely affected by the attacks. This act provides benefits in addition to and not in exclusion of the benefits available to victims under any other law.
