A new home TV is a major purchase and not one that should be rushed into retail sales people have a big say in steering customers into products and brands. Partly to offer good advice but also because they are incentivized to do so by their employer.
If you are looking for a new Flat Screen TV over 40 inch wide then you will be more than likely recommend to buy an LCD TV, retail salespeople are recommending LCD TVs at a rate of three to one over Plasma TV sets according to research by J.D Power. Most of these recommendations will be based on old information about plasma TVs that isn't relevant to the modern Plasma TV that's now available. For example, more than one-third (38%) of salesperson's told their customers that LCD sets last longer. Also, 37% of salesperson's warned their customers that images may be permanently burned onto the screens of plasma TVs.
Other interesting stats that came out of the study show that among LCD TV brands, Samsung and Sony were recommended 35% and 28% of the time, respectively.
