LCD or Plasma TV - Which one is for you
LCD or Plasma TV: That's the question Thinking of buying a new TV set and not sure what to buy? Plasma or LCD? 32-inch or a much bigger one?
Well, why not get educated.
For a starter you should know that each of plasma or LCD has their pros and cons, but rest assured that both will give you, the consumer, a phenomenal picture.
How does a plasma TV work?
Plasma televisions work by the electrifying of the gases neon and xenon to make plasma. Sizes varies from 32 up to gigantic 63 inches size. With flat panel displays they produce a clear crisp picture.
A big advantage of plasma TV over LCD is you can view a plasma television in a 160 degree angle. They are, with the proper signal, made for high definition viewing.
Now let's talk about some cons of plasma TVs. There are quite a few and they include increased cost, screen burn-in, and at altitudes higher than 6,500 feet they produce buzzing noise that can be very annoying.
What about LCD television
LCD televisions work in a way similar to a plasma except instead of neon and xenon they use liquid crystal. Sizes range from 20 to 50 inches, have flat panel displays, and usually come with built-in tuner. And yes you get clear sharp picture as well.
You can view LCD televisions from a 120-130 degree angle. And unlike their plasma counterparts they operate well in high altitudes. And, if you are one who cares, they are energy efficient too.
So, what about the cons?
First off, response time of a LCD television is slightly slower. This can produce a trailing effect. The viewing angle is quite limited comparing to a plasma. There are also some color concerns due to lighting issues as to where in the room you place the television.
So which one should you get?
Everything is down to what you prefer. Both plasma and LCD TVs are worth the money spent on them. If you decide to go for a LCD one, the more popular brands are LG, Haier or Samsung.
