La Caleta Tenerife--old-world Charm, Modern Sophistication
La Caleta is a tranquil part of Tenerife, located on the Costa Adeje
. It was originally a small fishing village. Since its simpler days, it has grown with modern times while still maintaining the charm of the original village. There are now resorts and hotels, as well as big houses and apartment complexes, but the town has kept the small-town charm that is so beloved.
La Caleta wraps around a small cove and enjoys some of the warmest weather in Tenerife. While you are in La Caleta, you can eat at wonderful restaurants, within walking distance. Most of the restaurants specialize in seafood, naturally, but there are tapas and other choices. You can dine al fresco at many restaurants and take in the spectacular view of the beach and relax as you hear the waves crash.
Stroll around and peruse the goods the quaint shops have to offer. Sit and watch the boats bob on the sea. Your days can be spent very leisurely, just enjoying the beauty of this village.
If you're feeling a little more adventurous, you can go for a swim in the ocean. There are ladders built into the cove that let you climb on in and brave the waves. If that sounds a little too risky for you, simply sunbathe and enjoy the view.
While you can spend your days being swept up in the charm of this sweet fishing town, you will also be able to enjoy modern luxury. Just a mile away is Golf Coast Adeje, a spectacular 27-hole course. It offers stunning views of the neighboring islands and mountains. And in the nearby Playa del Duque, there are several shopping centers featuring high-end designer fashion.
The resorts on La Caleta are grand and well-appointed, there to make your stay in Tenerife even more pleasurable. You will be able to relax by the pool, perhaps get a work-out in, and get pampered at the spa. Many resorts have kids clubs that provide supervised activities for children. And of course, the resorts have their own restaurants and bars so you never even have to leave the property for you nightly entertainment.
La Caleta has been called a real "gem, " because it's got the best of both worlds. Even though La Caleta added resorts and villas to accommodate the growing number of visitors, the village did not completely change and lose its charm. It kept its small restaurants and shops, but allowed for development, and that is what makes La Caleta special.
