Often these are exercises where you ascend or descend a scale on various syllables. For example, perhaps you want to simply descend the scale on a light hum while you ascend the scale on an open "ah" sound. These are performed going up and down the keyboard respectively within the confines of your vocal range. If you do this consistently you will find that your vocal range will expand both higher and lower.

However not all of how to sing high notes is about the actual notes that your voice can hit. In fact, many people can sing extremely high notes, but they are not always pleasing to listen to. This is where your head voice can be the most focused and strong. Typically, if you have the right placement as you sing those high notes you can feel your nose gently vibrating.

The intonation refers to how you are using your mouth to create the vowel sound that you are singing on. For example, traditionally, you want your mouth to open more horizontally rather than vertically for a less shrill and fuller sound.
