1. Go for cool lighting. Florescent lamps are not only efficient but also give cool
light. An incandescent bulb uses just ten per cent of the electricity it consumes and rest is scattered as heat in your room. So the florescent lamp not only cools your bill but also keeps the room cooler.
2. Wear summer friendly light colored cotton clothes. Don't use AC all the time. Don't forget your fan and your good old friend cooler. A 1.5 ton AC uses two KW of power every hour. With this you could use your cooler for 24 hours and a an for 36 hours. Coolers are very effective in dry scorching heat. Of course they don't work when it is humid.
3. Try as much greenery around your room in balcony or terrace as possible. Use shades and black glasses on windows to optimize the use of Air Conditioner.
4. Always set your AC at 25 degree calcium. If you set it lower temperatures say 22 you would be wasting energy
.
5. Clean the AC filers as often as you can. If it is dusty, every two days or else your AC will consume more, cool less.
6. Place your AC or cooler at your bed or couch level. Placing it higher would reduce its efficiency.
7. Change your AC if it is old as these machines become power hungry with age.
8. Do give your cooler or AC a break in a while. An efficient AC cools and humidifies in less than an hour and even with AC switched off would keep the room cool for at least half an hour.
9. Keep your refrigerator in an airy place, preferable near a window, away from the heat area of kitchen. It should not be kept in the room where you use AC.
10. Never keep your refrigerator thermostat set for maximum cooling. It should be always set mid way. And don't put hot stuff immediately.
