Learning To Navigate New York City

A popular fact is that New York City alone is called home by a close to ten million people

. Compared to all the US States, it has more businesses and skyscrapers per square mile. That means that a tourist may not be able to see everything there is to see given a short time frame. Even born residents are not able to proudly say that he or she has travelled every square inch of the bustling metropolis. You might even miss famous sights like the Empire State Building if you do not know where and what to look for. Learning to use landmarks is one of the tricks in finding your way around New York City.

The best way to move around the Big Apple is through public transportation, which in itself is New York City must-see and must-do. There are popular destinations that can serve as your landmarks when navigating the City. Locations such as the New York University, the loved World Trade Center Plaza, the renowned Metropolitan Museum, the pioneering Chrysler Building and of course the Brooklyn Bridge help a lot when you want to familiarize yourself of the Citys geography.

When you want to go to the New York Library and decide to take the subway, you know you are on the right track if you see the Chrysler Building upon exiting the subway. The World Trade Center Plaza signifies that both the Battery Park and the bustling Wall Street is already near. The Brooklyn Bridge serves as a beacon for those who want to experience the cultural offerings of Little Italy and China Town. You will know you have reached the best shopping enclave when you see the New York University. These are just examples and you can discover far more clues when you go about and explore the City. The number of combinations is endless as there is no shortage of famous landmarks in New York City.

Although using famous landmarks as clues for navigation may prove really helpful while navigating around New York City, you might also want to just consider using not-so-famous landmarks like the corner caf or the mom and pop shop in the next block. There are a lot of major hotels and important buildings that have no visible signs. You might miss them if you do not keep your eyes peeled. If you have a day you can devote to exploring the City, do so. Try out as many places as you can. Remember that not only is New York City considered large because of the population. The City is literally large in area. The only way to truly familiarize yourself with the City landscape is to pound the pavement and look up once in a while. You might be standing right outside the Empire State Building without you realizing it.
