Leaving College For Audio Production Schools

My son visited the other day to tell me that he is going to quit attending the university

he has been going to because he wants to attend one of the audio productions schools. You cannot imagine how I felt. I have always tried to impress upon him the importance of starting what you finish and to get a college degree. He only has one more year to go.

I asked him what it he planned to do after completing the schooling and was told he planned on working in one of the big music venues as the sound person. I always thought any musical production or band had their own sound people. Where we live there are a lot of shows and concerts every night. If the halls do have sound people, there would be plenty of places to work if they are still hiring.

I figure I do have some time to look into the situation since he is plans on finishing this semester anyway. Then there is summer break too. Nothing has to be decided until the middle of August really. It is time for me to start researching audio production schools. I am sure there is some type of accreditation they must submit to. I will also check the audio industry to find out if it is overloaded or not.

Medical assistant schools are pretty much a sham. They claim there is a big need for medical assistants and turn out 40 to 50 of them every month. It is almost impossible to get a job in the field. I need to know that audio production schools are not doing the same thing.

I think I need to convince him to stay in school and then take up audio production after he has his Bachelor's degree. He is studying accounting and entrepreneurship. He can use what he has learned and start his own business within the sound and audio markets. I really do not think he could just work a sound board for someplace and be happy.

My son has always been involved in music in some way. He was in band since elementary school, learning five different instruments for the band before graduating. He is also a self-taught guitarist who has formed a band and played at small, local establishments.

Although he does enjoy it, he never pushed things with it. Again, because of where we live, he could have become a professional musician but always told me that was not his goal in life.

I would have to say, if his goal was never to be a musician, I do not understand the sudden interest in audio production schools and becoming a sound man. I can only hope it is a quick phase and he will be over it before it is too late to register for his next semester and get his financial aid and scholarships.
