Let Your Wedding Flowers Do The Talking - What Kind Of A Bride Are You?

It is often said that the flowers at a wedding were "As pretty as a picture" and they remain so captured in the photographic images forever

. But, as it is also said: "A picture paints a thousand words..." so what might your wedding flowers be saying about you?

Think carefully about what kind of a statement you want to make: "This is me and this is my big day and I'm going to be beautiful and enjoy it." Or "Hey guys, lets have some fun, be wacky, enjoy ourselves and CELEBRATE!" Or perhaps: "This is the coolest, most sophisticated wedding you will ever have been to." The dress, the bridesmaids, venue and the music all come together to help you make that statement but the one area in which you can really demonstrate yourself and your individual style is through your flowers.

But how well do you know your florist, or does he/she know you? The more they know about you, your likes and dislikes and what makes you tick, your favourite colours and materials, the more likely you are to be able to work with them to reproduce your style and personality within your wedding flowers.

What sort of a flower person are you? Your personality should always be reflected within your choice of wedding flowers and, surprisingly enough, similar personality types will chose similar flowers - but the better you get to know your florist the more they will be able to recognise in you what types of flowers are going to suit your taste and make constructive suggestions.

The Artistic Bride

An artistic type of personality will be creative and take pleasure in the unconventional, perhaps enjoy travelling, museum and theatrical productions. They are often found searching for personal betterment and will be attracted to anything from new age to the arts. Most usual choice of flowers for this type of person are exotic varieties in unusual colours, such as Orchids, Lisianthus, Calla Lillies, Hypericum, Roses, Gerbera, Anthiriums . People from this category usually want a designer bouquet, unique to them, never seen before, often including within it willow constructions (wooden cages or framework around which the bouquet is made) or bold use of Aluminium wire for a more contemporary look.

The Romantic Bride

A romantic on the other hand is often a generous, spontaneous, possibly extravagant individual who dreams of a fairy tale wedding - with flowers everywhere. Shades of white or pastel colours are favourites within this group, light fragrances often accented with lace or ribbons and intricate jewelled detailing. Brides from this group love to see lots of flowers, cascading pedestal arrangements are favourites, as are petals sprinkled on their tables. Increasingly popular within this group are the types of bouquet where you have petals within a central framework and when the bride throws the bouquet her guests are showered with the petals. These brides love their flower girls to throw petals in front of her as she makes her way through her guests.

The Natural Bride

Preferring a wide mixture of flowers and materials, the natural girl is very casual and down-to-earth. In her bouquet you will find lots of natural materials - wood, different types of foliage mixed together, lots of different types or varieties of flowers, buds and berries. A lover of life and the outdoors, she loves a 'just picked from the garden' feel to her flowers. Asters, spray Roses, Tulips, Delphiniums, Carnations, Hyacinths, Lisianthus, Muscari and Ivy are all favourites. Her table centres are likely be full and generous miniature gardens.

The Traditional Bride

A traditional bride on the other hand will choose flowers which illustrate her trustworthy, family-orientated, classical sense of style. She appreciates lush arrangements with a limited variety of flowers. Long stemmed Lilies and Roses are popular choices for larger bouquets. Carnations and Chrysanthemums are often seen in table arrangements of this person.

The Contemporary Bride

Brides who prefer a contemporary style to their flowers are often seen as 'cutting edge trend setters' who enjoy living life to the full and very much for the moment. Often impulsive, they pride themselves on knowing the most 'in vogue' trends before everyone else. Loving to be the centre of attention these personalities will choose bold colours and arrangements with contemporary containers in order to 'make their statement'. Anthiriums, Bird of Paradise Flowers, Heliconia, Amaranthus and Orchids are all popular choice with these brides.

Whatever your individual personality type and style, the better you get to know your florist the more he/she is going to be able to help you to make your statement with as much impact as possible. So, whether you want to be as subtle as the English Rose itself or as bright as a Sunflower, take time out of your busy pre-wedding schedule and get closer to your florist!
