LG are advertising there new Optimus model as an affordable

, alternative smartphone; the phone is powered by the ever popular Android and uses a 3.0 inch touch screen for UI navigation. The application based interface is packed with playful little features and with a built in camera and multimedia player the phone is well equipped for the budding filmmakers and photographers out there. The Optimus is also loaded up with Wi Fi, a 3.5mm AV jack, USB connection and an expandable memory with a microSD card up to 32GB, and Bluetooth for wireless hardware communication.

The LG Optimus is a very attractive device indeed; from the handy palm shaped curves at either end, to the phones metallic effect casing, it is brimming with style and would be just as much an effective fashion accessory as it would a mobile phone. The 3.0 inch TFT display has 320 x 480 pixel resolutions and it really brings out the vibrant colours of the quirky interface.

The phones software is entirely customizable thanks the bottomless pit of applications provided by the Android Market. LG have gone app crazy with this phone delivering apps for navigation, messaging and social networking straight out of the box, you can also download more for gaming and other cool features. LG have also included there circus act feature; LiveSquare is a cartoon-styled contacts page which has a number of mini, animated creatures strolling about an interchangeable scenario, each little avatar represents a contact and be interacted with by the touching them.

With the Optimus being so app reliant, LG has ensured there is a reliable form of web connectivity. With Wi Fi the phone can wirelessly communicate over the providing there is a WLAN hotspot nearby, and with them dotted around almost everywhere finding a strong connection shouldnt be a problem. LG have also made the device socially aware with dedicated SNS features, compatibility for Facebook, MySpace and Twitter all comes as standard. For alternative forms of communication, both e-mail and IM clients have been provided. You also get the obvious SMS and MMS options.

As Android is a Google based product, a number of there services come in the basic package. YouTube, Gmail, GoogleTalk and Google Maps provide there support in there respective fields. You also get a Google search engine for better search results when surfing. The camera is an ordinary 3MP effort with support for video recording, LG have also hooked it up with face detection. The video player ha basic support for a variety of file types and the music player has a built-in FM radio receiver.

Where others have not noticed, LG have exploited. There is a huge gap in the market for an affordable option when it comes to buying a smartphone, LG have filled this gap with there hugely successful Cookie range, there new LG Pop and now the LG Optimus. The Optimus is LGs higher spec alternative but considering what it is capable of the price tag is very low.
