LifeShield Security's Tips for a Safe Holiday Season

LifeShield Security's Tips for a Safe Holiday Season

In a recent press release, LifeShield, the nation's leading provider of wireless home security systems, encouraged American's to be wary of burglaries in November and December. Prompted by statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which show that almost 400,000 burglaries occur in the US during the Holiday season every year, LifeShield Security decided to share five DIY tips to increase your home security in the upcoming months. Read on to find out more.

If you take advantage of Black Friday's discounts and buy valuable equipment such as televisions, blue-ray systems, DVD players, and computers, never leave the empty boxes by the trash on the curb. Always make sure to break them down and conceal them.

Many homeowners leave holiday and Christmas lighting on for extended periods of time. However, this allows burglars scouting out your property to see your possessions, and to check whether the coast is clear for a break-in. Make sure to cover your windows and, if necessary, doors with curtains, decorations, or spray-on frosting.

Many people receive parcels and packages during the Holiday season. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for criminals to try to gain entry to your home by posing as a delivery person. Always make sure to ask for identification, to ensure the person you're dealing with is who they say they are. If he or she refuses to show an ID, shut and lock the door immediately, and call the police.

If you're going away for the Holidays, remember not to change your regular voice message on your cell phone or landline. This also goes for your social media sites and accounts. It's all too easy for a criminal to learn on your Facebook account that you're out of town, and to drop by your home for some of his or her own holiday shopping.

If you haven't already, make sure to secure all exterior doors on your property with deadbolts. These add extra strength to your doors and make it much more difficult for them to be broken down.

In addition, LifeShield Security's Founder and CEO Luois Stilp encourages homeowners to install a high-quality home security system that is well-suited to your lifestyle and your home. Stilp advises those looking to install their first home security system to ask themselves the following questions: is the home security system you're interested in within your budget? Is it wireless? Does it offer remote arming and disarming capabilities? Does it offer at least four layers of protection?

If you take all this excellent advice from the best professionals in the business to heart, you can enter the Holiday season with confidence and peace of mind.
