Joomla recently launched Joomla 3.0 in the month of September

, 2012. Joomla is considered as one of the most popular and preferred open source content management system for web development. It is majorly used to build, organize, manage, and publish the content for websites, blogs, intranets, and mobile apps.

With every updated version, Joomla is improving and adding features to it making web development easier and more functional. Along with some addition of attractive features, Joomla 3.0 has added a most useful feature by which now it can display content on mobile devices as clearly and distinctly as it displays on desktop or Mac.

With the growing demand of mobile solutions worldwide, Joomla took a step forward with this version and now all Joomla based websites can have mobile friendly content for visitors and mobile friendly tools for administrators. The main objective of this release was to make Joomla completely mobile friendly. For this, Joomla incorporated Twitter Bootstrap into a Joomla User Interface [JUI] library, which is an extensive front end toolkit for developing mobile-ready websites and apps.

Some other enhancements done in Joomla 3.0 CMS includes

- It now includes a much more simplified 3-step installation process

- It now features a new user interface for administrators and a new front end template Protostar

- It has integrated an updated accessible template Beez3

- Addition of PostgreSQL driver is done which makes this CMS truly database independent

- It uses JFeed now for Feed management instead of SimplePie

- Enhancements are being done to smart search functionality

- The entire backend is given a brand new look and feel that will help to improve the overall workflow with any device

- Lots of Developer tools are integrated so that now developers need to spend less time in coding and building interfaces

- It now allows installation of language packages directly from the extension manager

With so many enhancements done, it is likely that many templates and extensions of Joomla 2.5 will need to be modified to work in this version. More than 25 updates are done in Joomla 3.0 and so it is always necessary to test all the extensions and templates being used in a website or an application prior to migrating. Also, availability of third-party templates and extensions should be considered at the time of migration or while choosing the right Joomla version to use. This is important because the technical requirements of Joomla 3.0 are quite different than that of previous Joomla versions.
