. The global survey by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery showed that India, China and the US are among the top five countries that demand liposuction services. ISAPS president Foad Nahai in Atlanta said, "Countries like China and India with emerging economies are generating a lot wealth and as that wealth is passed around, people are choosing to spend their income on aesthetic procedures.'' Liposuction is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery in the United States. In 2002, there were 372,831 liposuction procedures performed in the United States, which is an estimated 13% of all plastic surgical procedures.

The statistics by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery shows that cosmetic surgery, is becoming famous in emerging nations like India and China. Rhinoplasty or nose jobs were the most sought after cosmetic procedures in India but now it has given way to liposuction that has high demand in the US. Liposuction, the surgical removal of fatty tissues are now very popular in India and the US. In the US, liposuction has replaced breast augmentation as the number one plastic surgery procedure in the US. In India, liposuction is now the most popular for of cosmetic surgery, followed by hair transplant, breast augmentation and nose-job (Rhinoplasty)

The reason for India to embrace liposuction is the rapid growth of cosmetic clinics attributed for the purpose. Also, today people have more disposable income than before, which they invest in looking good.
