Liposuction: Here Are The Different Types

Liposuction is a very commonly done procedure these days

, and there are many different ways to accomplish the same goal. The most important thing is to do a little research and to then discuss with your doctor what you think your best option will be.

Liposuction is one of the most common procedures in our country. Many people are uncomfortable with their bodies and for many different reasons. In addition to this, there are just some areas of the body that exercise alone doesn't take care of. This is where liposuction comes in. If you're considering having this done, you should know your options.

The most traditional way to complete this is with a large, hollow tube called a cannula. This is put beneath the skin and sucks out the excess fat. The type of procedure determines the type of anesthetic. In this traditional surgery, you are put under general anesthesia and the fat is just suctioned out. This is also sometimes called "dry" liposuction and is not done too often. Instead, something is injected in to the fat to make it more firm and to provide additional numbing agents to the affected areas.

When this is injected, the surgeon is able to better remove the undesirable parts. This is called "wet" lipo and is named because of the injection of the dilute anesthetic. It is a much more common procedure.

There is another form of lipo called Smartlipo. This form is one that is very revolutionary because of its ability to get much better results. Smartlipo involves using a laser and through very tiny incisions, burning off the fat. What is really amazing is that while using this method, you may be able to even stand up which will better allow your doctor to target specific areas while keeping the entire body in mind.

Some doctors will use different methods together in order to achieve the best results possible. As with any surgery, it is important that your surgeon be licensed and experienced. With liposuction, it is easy to over-correct which can cause depressions in the skin and a loss of confidence in a person.

Remember that while you are indeed going in for a medical procedure, that this person is responsible for artistically improving your body. This is why it is necessary that he or she have adequate training and experience.

With many options out there, it is good to be informed and to provide full disclosure to your doctor so that he or she can make sure to give you the best help possible. Doing a little research will make you more confident and will enable you to better communicate exactly what you want to your doctor. Good luck!
