Liverpool and her Region's Wind Farm Investments

Liverpool has grown and developed from humble beginnings and is now one of the most famous cities to visit in the United Kingdom. The city is rich in cultural history and architecture boasting some of the world leaders within the sports and music industry. The creativity of its 4 sons (The Beatles) shaped the movement of pop music, and now the city is shaping the movement of renewable energy.

Liverpool is very much a city of the 21st century, and whilst the John Lennon Airport welcomes visitors from all over the world, its maritime legacy has historically provided a backbone to the economic success of the city.

The waters of Liverpool are still proving to be vital to the development and growth of the city and the wider region. With major regeneration projects being introduced by Peel Holdings and now a major investment into a significant wind farm, the economy is looking "green".

This west coast hub for wind farm development, reported to bring in 15 billion from the Irish Sea zone alone, is a result of a successful partnership between Cammel Laird, Stobart Group and Peel Ports. The strategy development is believed to create thousands of new jobs in the region over the next five to twenty years.

Mark Basnett, Director of Investment for The Mersey Partnership believes the scale of investment and impact to be enormous, "It's not been seen in the UK since the boom years of the North Sea Oil and gas industry of the 1970's."

One cannot but hail the comparison of the 1970's North Sea Oil and gas success, to this new wind farm hub for the clean energy of the future.

The Merseyside region appears to be adapting to the sustainable needs of the economy, the job creation agenda and of course the environment. Stiebel Eletron, a company based in Wirral, Merseyside has opened up a new "green energy" college. Situated in the Wirral International Business Park, Merseyside, the college is aiming to deliver fully qualified technicians able to meet the demands of renewable energy development.

The Green Energy training Centre (CETC) has been housed with the latest renewable energy technology and could herald the first wave of new national training centres.

Great leadership begins with great vision and the determination to realise a dream. Merseyside as a region of the Northwest of England is proving to become a global leader in synchronized green thinking. Investments into the renewable technologies and into the training required to ensure the continued sustainability, means the future of Liverpool and its wider region is affluent; the future is green.
