Living With Cats And Dogs
Most people still think that cats and dogs will never get along
. However, many families out there actually keep both cats and dogs as pets that live in perfect harmony. Its an old urban legend that cats and dogs fight every time they see each other. However, keep in mind that you have to be watchful though in case things get rough between the two.
Here are some tips to help both your pets to get along.
Feeding time
Make sure that their food bowls are separated and far away from each other. One of the biggest reasons why cats and dogs fight is because one might think that the other is taking their food. Its a sign of dominance and one of them has to know who gets to eat first. To make it easier, place the dogs food bowl on the ground and the cats food bowl on the top of the counter. This way, they never get into each others noses when eating.
Bath time
Cats dont need to be bathed since they do it themselves, but as for dogs, never let your dog run around the house right after they bath. If youve notice, dogs became really active once they finished a bath. They run around all over the place and start bumping into things. If they see the cat, they will surely bother it no matter what its doing. If you dog cant move around, like in cases of DM in dogs, be sure to keep it isolated and immobileuse this time to dry them.
Sleep time
Cats spend most of the day sleeping while dogs are usually up and about during the day. Give your dog its own space to sleepcats usually just sleep anywhere they want, even if you give them a small bad or mat to sleep in. train your dog not to bother the cat when its still sleeping since it could end up in a fight. Dogs that are ill with illnesses like DM in dogs and spend most of their time lounging aroundwill enjoy the company of a cat a bit more.
Play time
If you have kids, theyll definitely favor the dog a bit more than the cat. Dogs are more responsive and love to move around while cats prefer to cozy up next to you and just sleep. However, cats can also be active and responsive if you give them toys like feathers, rubber mice and scratching posts. Be careful when throwing the toy around, especially if your neat the dog, since this could cause the cat to scratch the dog accidentally.
