, Jane's Addiction's singer, the festival was supposed to be a farewell tour for the band. But then it caught on and has been running consistently (except for the gap between 1997 and 2003) since then as one of the best rock venues in the country. Lollapalooza has gone through some changes in its time and is now known to fans as one of the best places to see an eclectic mix of music and performances. Everything from comedy performances to rock bands to hip hop acts can be seen on the stages at Lollapalooza. This year, along with an excellent lineup, Lollapalooza tickets will surely sell out with famed bands the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Black Keys set to headline the festival. That is just the start of a lineup that has a real mix of artists attending the festival.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

This Los Angeles rock band has been around since their formation in 1983. While attending Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, Jack Irons, Flea, Hillel Slovak, and Anthony Kiedis formed a band that was supposed to play only one show for 30 people. But the show was so lively and the audience reacted so well, that they were asked to come back. The name Red Hot Chili Peppers stuck and they toured LA playing a number of hot spots around the city.

By the following year, the band already had a label, EMI, and recruited new members Jack Sherman and Cliff Martinez. The alternative rock band released their eponym album that got some radio play and hits on MTV in August of 1984. But it wasn't until their second album, which was produced by George Clinton, that the band really started growing a fan base. Throughout the 1980s, the Red Hot Chili Peppers kept recording new albums and finally received mainstream success. The band continues to be one of the top rock bands still performing.

The Black Keys

Formed in 2001 in Akron, Ohio, and from the beginning The Black Keys were a hit. The band used covers of old blues songs by artists like Junior Kimbrough and Muddy Waters as well as big rock bands like The Beatles for their debut album. The Black Keys had a colt following which prompted them to record their second album, Thickfreakness in 2003. That album and their next, Rubber Factory, began to get the band some mainstream play and attention. With a mix of soul, funk, and rock, The Black Keys were able to get their songs picked up for use in commercials and movies, leading them to become even bigger. They are currently touring to support their latest album, El Camino.

The Lineup

Along with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Black Keys, Lollapalooza will have other big names sharing the stage. Miike Snow, J. Cole, Passion Pit, The Shins, Avicii, Florence + The Machine, Jack White, Black Sabbath, and a slew of other artists will be in attendance. With a mix of hip hop, rock, alternative, dance, and more, Lollapalooza is sure to be a success.
