London is the perfect place to spend Christmas

, from the bright lights of the West End to the bustling retail heaven that is Oxford Street; it really is a fairy tale. If you already life in London or are planning on moving to the Big Smoke in the New Year, make sure you take the time to experience one of the worlds greatest cities during the festive period.

Christmas would not be the same without a trip to a market and with so many different markets to choose from you are guaranteed to find all of those quirky gifts you havent yet tracked down. In 2012 there are festive markets in Camden, Covent Garden, Stepney, The Southbank Centre, Kensel and Hyde Park along with many other pop up markets in individual boroughs. Expect mulled wine, handmade gifts and lots of sweet treats that are perfect for munching on during the holiday season.

Get into the seasonal spirit with a carol service in the city. An entire evening of your favourite Christmas songs is the perfect way to get into the spirit and will turn even the biggest of scrooges into an excitable child. From majestic venues such as Westminster Abbey and St Pauls cathedral to smaller charity events, there is guaranteed to be a carol service close to where you are staying. Head to the Trafalgar Square every evening until the 22nd of December for carols sung by charity groups from across the city.

Ice Skating is a Christmas tradition and whether you are a pro skater or just fancy testing your balance skills on one of the many rinks across London, it is a great festive activity. Head to the Natural History Museum to take advantage of the 1,000 metre square outdoor rink or take in the lavish surroundings of Somerset House on one of the most impressive rinks in town. Ice skating is a great activity for the whole family, plus it is a perfect excuse to grab a glass of mulled wine afterwards.

With so many property developers London building new impressive apartments and houses, there really is no better time to experience this magical city for yourself. Get into the Christmas spirit and head to one of the many Christmas themed events taking place across London, whether you are with family, friends or simply taking in the city solo, you cannot possibly leave without feeling the intoxicating Christmas spirit.
