Looking To The Future With An Accounting Career

When a person is growing up and going to school many things go through their mind as to what to be when becoming an adult

. Doctor, policeman, fireman all are considered somewhere along the way. Then, suddenly one discovers mathematics, finds it is fascinating and considers an Accounting Career.

Working with numbers can be exciting and fun. Being able to explore the many options of numerical maneuvering gives a sense of achievement that is done with the mind and does not require a great deal of body strength such as required in a football career. People who become proficient in this area find it a very successful endeavor.

To have a career in this field one needs to have a good education. The majority of accounting positions require at least a bachelors degree in accounting while other's require a masters degree or a CPA license. A number of companies feature accounting internships in which the job is combined with educational classes.

Accounting is a field that is in high demand not only in companies but as an individual career as well. CPA's (Certified Public Accountants) are very popular at income tax time and often have to work late hours to fill the many requests for assistance in this area. January to May is their busiest time of the year. The rest of the year, they are usually working with various individuals or companies on their financial records.

A CPA license is required if there are official federal reports to be made or if a public accounting report must be filed. To obtain a CPA license the applicant must pass extensive examinations by the state's licensing board. These exams are provided by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

To be eligible to take the examination, work experience is required in addition to educational requirements. CPA's are also required, in most states, to attend and complete accounting classes to maintain their license. States differ on how often the license is renewed and how the proof of accounting classes is to be submitted.

The prospects for job an Accounting career are very good. Usually one starts out as a junior auditor or trainee and can work up in a company to positions such as Controller, Treasurer or Chief Financial Officer. Accountants are needed in all aspects of business, therefore there are many different jobs that can be filled by someone with knowledge and education in this field.
