Losing Weight? Be Careful Who You Compare Yourself To!
Losing Weight? Be Careful Who You Compare Yourself To!
Losing weight is one of the greatest challenges many people face. Not only can it be exhausting for the body when you change your eating habits and start to exercise but it can also be very difficult for the mind. One of the challenges we face in our minds are all those little talks we have with ourselves. These small "inner dialogues" play a major role in our success, or failure for that matter.
Not only is it important to keep the mind in a positive state but it's also important to control the thought process. One of the greatest dangers of the mind is his tendency to compare you to others. Usually he does this in a negative way asking you questions like "how come he is losing his weight twice as fast as I am" or "we do the same routine, Why don't I see the same results?". This is a dangerous path and is best avoided and it's easy to do when you keep a few things in mind.
No two bodies are the same. Not only is the bone structure and muscle density different but each body also has it's own metabolism. This is the main reason why everybody will lose weight differently. It doesn't matter if you eat the same things, do the same workout routine and go through your daily activities in the exact same way, you will not lose weight or gain muscles at the same rate. It's as simple as that. This is why you should never compare yourself to anyone but yourself. You need to find out what keeps you going, set goals, monitor your weight loss and perhaps body fat percentage. This is the single best way to keep you on track an motivated. As long as you are heading in the right direction you should be happy, no matter if someone is getting there faster than you.
I'd also like to mention the fact that women are different from men. It's a proven fact that they can't lose weight as fast. Their bodies are meant to have a higher percentage of fat (it's a labor thing) and therefore it's more difficult..., no, not more difficult, it just takes longer.
So keep in mind that if you compare yourself to other you might easily get discouraged and you could possibly give up mentally without realizing that it's basically useless to compare yourself to others since it's impossible (can't really compare apples and pineapple).
Stay focused, keep your mind clear of comparison and fight on!
