Luxury Watch Care And Maintenance Tips

They say not all things are created equal

They say not all things are created equal. The same saying goes true for watches. All watches need proper care, but high end designer watches need special care and maintenance to preserve its quality and accuracy. The life of your luxury timepieces entirely depends on how you take care of it. With this, let me share to you some tips on how to care and maintain your watches.

1. Most designer watches now are automatic or self winding, so there's no need to manually wind it. Some high end brands such as Rolex, Audemars Piguet and Omega create chronometer watches which are extremely accurate. Manual winding watches need to be wound at least every three days.

2. Some watches are water resistant while some are not. As a tip, avoid wearing your expensive watches near salt water because this could cause your watch to corrode. The same goes with chlorinated water so avoid wearing your expensive watches when swimming or when going to the beach. It would be better to wear something more appropriate for the place and something that could withstand these conditions.

3. Chemicals and gases such as solvents could cause damage to your watch. These could cause discoloration of the finish of the watch. So as a tip, avoid exposing your watch to harmful chemicals and gases.

4. Some high end watches, if not all, are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. But of course this doesn't mean that you have to leave it in extreme temperatures for a long period of time.

5. Avoid dropping your watch or exposing it to shocks and impacts. Your watch might lose its precision so it's best to handle it with care.

6. Wipe off sweat on your watch with a soft, lint free cloth once you take it off. Never store your watch in its container while it's still damp.
