Apple has just announced the release of its latest MacBook Air. Reviewers have generally been impressed with the new piece of kit. Many have noted how the MacBook air is even slimmer than before but has faster and better specification.
Never one to be too slow in coming forward to praise his own products, Steve Jobs of Apple has described the MacBook air as "the future of notebooks".
The reviewers at Tech Digest timed how long the MacBook took to be ready for action from the moment it was turned on and found that this was a very speedy 20 seconds only.
Tech Digest were less impressed with the value for money offered by the MacBook air. They pointed out that it that whilst 2GB RAM was adequate for everyday working it still did seem a little miserly when so many other rivals offer 4GB.
Another reviewer, at the Daily Telegraph, was perhaps more positive complimenting the MacBook's performance and appearance and noting also that the battery life seems improved. It was noted that Apple seem to have learnt from their iPAd experience and taken the best of that device and applied it to a laptop.
It has been announced by Apple that their iPhoto and iMovies programs for pictures and videos have been updated and should work very effectively on the new MacBook Air. Interestingly there is now enhanced integration with Facebook. This is somewhat of a departure for Apple which in the past has adopted a fairly insular approach to its products. Perhaps the company is finally accepting that it must cooperate with others if it is to maximise its own revenues.
So, what about an overall rating for the new Macbook Air. I would go for an 8/10 but as with all Apple products most will either love it or hate it.
