Mauritius is a well known honeymoon destination, but it's not limited to couples in love. An island off the southeast coast of Africa, it is popular with English tourists as English is the official language spoken in the country.

A great way to see the island is by horseback, so if you are feeling energetic try a pony trek up to the peak of the Moka Mountains. There are lots of other physical activities to do while you are there, including diving, sailing and water skiing.

For more stress free activities, there is a selection of spas on the island for the ultimate relax, and the northern part of the island has really calm waters for sea swimming. Try snorkelling or diving to really see the plethora of wildlife that inhabits the waters. Explore some of the pretty little coves to see the flora and fauna, or why not try taking a speedboat over to the idyllic paradise of nearby Ile aux Cerfs.

Eating out is a great experience on the island, with the food being a sumptuous mix of Creole, French, Indian and English styles. The island doesn't have a very big produce trade so a lot of the food is imported, even the seafood.

Shopping is duty free on the island so make the most of grabbing a bargain to take home with you.
