Make Your Contribution To Big Energy Saving Week

You may not be aware that this week is officially Big Energy Saving Week

. The initiative is led by Citizens Advice Bureau with support from the Energy Saving Trust and funded by the Big Six energy companies with additional support coming from consumer groups, the Government and Ofgem.

Its purpose is to give help and assistance to those currently struggling with the cost of energy bills and supplying them with potential solutions to their energy-related problems. Anyone troubled by expensive energy should find the below energy-saving tips extremely useful:

Appliances

When purchasing a new fridge, freezer, microwave etc. check to see what energy efficient rating it has. Only buy an appliance that comes with at least a C rating but if you can afford it opt for an A rated option. You should also make sure that any appliance not in use is switched off at all times and not left on standby.

Lighting

Lose any traditional light bulbs you have and replace them with energy-saving light bulbs. When you leave any room in your home unoccupied turn off the lights. For extra savings you could make more use of candles, a cheap way of lighting your household.

Windows

The older your traditional wooden windows become, the more likely it is that they will allow heat from your boiler to escape. Get them replaced and install double glazing in Slough, double glazing in Oxford or double glazing in Maidenhead to restore energy efficiency in your home.

Kettle

When making a cup of tea of coffee only boil your kettle as and when you intend to have your drink as excessive boiling can consume a considerable amount of energy. To save water too, only use as much water as you need.

Insulate

Heat rises so insulate any loft space you have to help retain it inside your property. Replacing your boiler will also help drive down the cost of energy. Though the initial expense may seem excessive, the long-term savings make it worthwhile.

Shower

Taking a 5 or 10 minute shower will consume far less energy and water than filling your bath. Limiting the number of showers you take during the week will make a financial difference.

Readings

Provide your energy supplier with a regular meter reading to avoid them estimating how much energy your home consumes as this can often be inaccurate and not a fair reflection of your usage.
