You may have already read about a lot of solar energy science projects that have been used a lot in various science fairs and competitions and may be planning to participate in one yourself and may be wondering what project you are going to construct in order to make it successful and win a prize for yourself. In this article, based on my own experiences and prizes that I have won using solar energy projects before, I will write about a couple of projects that I believe would be real winners and help you really well. I will write specifically about one particular solar energy science project that remains to be one of my favourites to date.

What I am talking about is a solar cooker. The reason why I am recommending this particular project is not only because it is really easy to build but also because it can be used for a lot of useful purposes and also because it can be constructed for very cheap by using materials that are readily available for purchase in your local store or is available at your house. In this article, I will describe the working of a simple cooker and you should keep in mind that more complex solar cookers can also be built. Making A Solar Oven With Kids

Okay, the basic things that you need for constructing a solar cooker is a good magnifying lens and some additional materials such as a cubical box. The cooker would work extremely efficiently if the box is coated with black colour on the inside and the outside. The reason for this black colour is because black attracts heat and traps it, not allowing it to escape thus increasing the heat. This is why people wear light coloured clothes or white coloured shirts in the summer. White has the opposite effect as black, i.e. it repels heat and light. The magnifying lens is positioned in such a way that it concentrates the sun's rays onto the black cubical box. The box has a glass panel covering the top. This is to further help in trapping the heat. The food that needs to be cooked is placed in this box. That's it, that's all you need for this solar energy science project. That is really neat and simple to build. You can achieve temperatures that are high enough to cook rice and boil water. That is impressive enough to cook some simple things.
