Making The Most Of Your Spa Equipment

When most people think of spas, they think of massages

, baths, manicures, and saunas. These are all parts of many spas, naturally, in one way or another. What makes them all work is the spa equipment behind them. It's difficult to take a bath without a tub, or have a massage without a table. Therefore, the choice of equipment is very important to the nature and environment of a spa, just as much as the attendants who work there on a daily basis.

There are many kinds of spa - fitness spas, spas on cruise ships, resort spas, garden spas, the traditional day spa, or even spas with medical professionals who provide medical help along with their skills to aid relaxation. All of them need spa equipment to function, whether in a small office space in a mall or in a large natural setting with hot springs and a garden setting.

Just something as apparently simple as aromatherapy will need some kind of equipment. Something has to hold the oils that create the scents and some method of diffusing the scent through the air. Just doing facials? You'll still need chairs that are comfortable which allow the client to recline. You may need something to generate steam of just the right temperature, or even equipment for mechanical exfoliation.

The centerpiece of many spas is the massage. Equipment will be necessary there, as well - though it will not necessarily be a table. If you like mobility, you may consider something like a massage chair, which has a high back for supporting the front of the client. This is perfect for quick massages, where the client does not even have to disrobe.

Naturally, many spas will be more stationary, have more time, and therefore will opt for the usual table - thoroughly padded, with good head support, and easily cleaned. The table could well be portable, but even if it is, this will still require a client to disrobe, because the table is made for longer and deeper massages. Your spa equipment may or may not include orthopedic pillows or bolsters, or you may have a table with hydraulic motion which allows for the positioning of your client for the maximum benefit of both the practitioner and the person lying on the table.

Manicures and pedicures require spa equipment all their own, even aside from the special chairs that are generally necessary, and the stool for the comfort of the manicurist. Just think about the long list of supplies you'll need: clippers, cuticle knife, scissors, files, nail polish, a pumice stone for feet. You may even want to go all out and find a foot bath, for the best possible experience of your clients.

In the end, what kind of Spa Equipment you use will determine the type of spa you're going to have. The attendants who tend to the needs of your clients are important, of course, but they're going to all need something to work with, and what they have should be the best you can possibly find.
