Think of a good topic for your blog. Try those topics which attract the readers in the beginning and after creating a good number of regular readers you can go for any topic of your interest and your blogs will be read by them. Most readers decide if they will read the blog completely or not in the first few minutes of reading. Therefore, if the introduction to the blog doesnt appeal much, readers might stop reading your blogs. Craft the introduction in such a way that the reader thinks that there is reliable information in your blog (dont fail to provide information later).

Information:

People look for information in your blogs. If you dont provide reliable information, they are not going to read your blogs anymore. So providing enough amount of reliable information is vital to make yourself a successful blogger. It is not necessary to pack your blogs with information but the information you are providing should be true and reliable. If readers find the information you provide to be trustworthy, they will read your blogs regularly. Blogs with unique information attract more readers than the ones that give common facts known to all. Blog readers have a thirst to gather knowledge. Therefore, provide information that will quench their thirst and they will come back when they get the thirst again. Also present the information in a format that they can remember. Visual representation will do the trick for such cases.

Tone:

Maintain a friendly tone for your blogs. Though blogging is an informal communication of ideas, using too much slang will not appeal. Using informal words is okay but not frequently. If people perceive that you are professional, they will trust your information and read your blogs regularly. Also bear in mind that too much professionalism will sound unfriendly. Therefore, use friendly tone and professional tone case by case. Even if you are going to write a blog as a task in your office, it is okay to use a friendly tone.

Follow Up:

Respond to the comments from the readers. Only people who are interested comment on your blogs so make sure you respond to the comments regularly. If you dont respond regularly, it will drain all the interest of the readers. Allowing the readers to contact you through email or by some other means is also equally rewarding. You can also get more information and feedback than if you dont. Interacting is the key to attracting new readers and retaining existing readers. It is also important to post blogs regularly. If you post a blog and dont post the next blog for a long time, readers wont check your posts often. Therefore, if you start blogging, do it regularly.

Consistency:

Maintaining consistency is very essential. If you choose a topic, stick to that topic. Deviating from the topic would make the readers lose interest. Providing a short description about what you will be writing on will help the readers know if you cover the topics of their interest. Therefore, try to be consistent with your topics and blogs.
