Many New B-schools Join Cat 2010, But More Opt Out

A closer look at CAT 2010 announcements and the information available on CATIIM.in

reveals that there is a significant churn in the B-schools which have officially opted to use CAT 2010 scores. In total, MBA aspirants have a chance to apply to 147 B-schools, apart from nine IIMs, that will use CAT 2010 scores.

MBAUniverse.com analysis, done based on last years prospectus and this years information on CATIIM.in, shows that there are 36 new institutes which have been listed as Non-IIM Member Institutions who have registered for use of CAT 2010 Scores. However, a larger number of B-schools, 41 to be precise, have opted out of CAT 2010.

They were associated with CAT 2009. The total number of non-IIMs who used CAT scores was 102 in 2008 and 150 in 2009.

Amongst the 36 new B-schools (compared to CAT 2009) that have registered to use CAT 2010 scores include NIIT University, Jaipur; O P Jindal Global University, Sonipat; Amrita School of Business, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bengaluru; Centum U Institute of Management & Creative Studies Delhi (a Bharti associate company) and Jaipuria Institute of Management Indore.

There are 41 B-schools which have opted out from .CAT 2010. Some of them are Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management; BLS Institute of Management, Ghaziabad; CORE Business School, Indore; Cosmic Business School, Delhi; FOSTIIMA Business School, New Delhi; Integrated Academy of Management and Technology, Ghaziabad and University of Petroleum & Energy Studies Gurgaon.

Some of the leading B-schools who will continue to use CAT 2010 scores include Management Development Institute Gurgaon; Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad; S P Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai; Birla Institute of Management Technology, Greater Noida; Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research Mumbai & Bengaluru; Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Trichy and T. A. PAI Management Institute, Manipal.

The official CAT 2010 notification was released on Sunday, August 22, 2010. The computer based test for this year will be held in a 20 day window between Wednesday, October 27, 2010 and Wednesday, November 24, 2010. The registration for CAT 2010 and the sale of CAT 2010 Vouchers will start from Monday, August 30, 2010 and the last date to register is Monday, September 27, 2010.
