Many cash in on not-so-old iPhones in favour of newer model

Following the release of the iPhone 4 it has emerged that thousands of older iPhone models, including the iPhone 3G and 3GS, are being put up for sale on Ebay. In addition to this, used consumer electronics site Gazelle.com have purchased at least 20,000 second hand iPhones. A spokeswoman for Gazelle has informed us that the number of used iPhones coming onto the market is three times what was expected.

Whilst many are opting to sell their old models on auction sites, others have resorted to recycling their iPhones. Online phone recycling comparison site Sellmymobile.com has confirmed that the iPhone 3G has became the most recycled mobile phone. It is believed that those who have bought or are looking to buy a new iPhone 4 are trading in their older handsets in order to generate money to contribute towards the purchase and monthly payments of the latest offering from Apple.

It is not only the sale of iPhones themselves which has soared because of the launch of the new handset. In the aftermath of the reception loss fiasco experienced by many iPhone 4 users, Apple has advised consumers to invest in a bumper case, which will nullify the effects of the reception loss. This however has left thousands discovering that they are unable to get their hands on the accessory. This in turn has led to numerous Ebay sellers offering the cases for as much as $100 on the auction site.

Many believe that Apple are at fault in this instance, and should be offering their iPhone 4 customers complementary bumper cases, rather than letting their loyal customers fend for themselves, and either wait for the parcel delivery company to deliver a new shipment, or pay over the odds on auction sites for a solution to their reception loss woes.
