Not all marketing efforts have to drain your already tight marketing budget. One of your greatest resources for new members is the other local businesses in your area that would love a new benefit to be able to offer their employees at no cost to them. Even in smaller markets, there should be enough businesses in your area to continue prospecting to a new one each week for years.

The first thing you need to do, of course, is start contacting the businesses in your area. Make sure you speak with somebody in charge or in human resources. Let them know you would like to offer them a free day of fitness. The employees can come in for fitness evaluations, a nutrition guide, an orientation of the facility to learn how to properly use the equipment and a 14 day membership. Most businesses will be on board with this since it requires no cost to the company and their employee's health is always becoming more of a concern as injuries and sick days are becoming more and more common in the workplace.

You will want to put together a professional letter stating what it is you want to offer and how it will benefit the company. Once you reach a decision maker in the company on the phone, set up a time to drop off some information. It's a lot easier to get them to agree to let you drop off information than to make a decision on the phone. Drop the letter off with a folder that includes information about your facility. Once you get back to the gym send them an e-mail thanking them for meeting with you and let them know that you will be following up with them in the next few days to find out when they would like to offer the Day of Fitness and what issues they would like your trainers to go over with the employees.

Now that you have the day set, you will want to make sure at least one of your trainers has that time set aside for this event. If you can have a couple other trainers available for this as well it will help things move a lot faster. Have the trainers take different groups and offer evaulations with measurements, weight, body fat percentages, etc. Next have the trainers take everybody through the gym showing them how to use the basic machines and explain what they do and the benefits. After going through the equipment they can then discuss other topics of interest that the company wants and give everybody a basic nutrition guide, work out logs and food journals. Everybody's 14 day membership will also start on this day. Make sure the sales department has a list of all of the names as well as contact information to follow up with each person and set up a time for them to come get their first workout in. Follow up is key with this promotion.
