Married Reduce Stress Levels

Many studies reveal the positive side of a marriage. One of them, commitment to marriage was allegedly good for public health. What article? A recent study showed that long-term commitment in marriage, change of hormones in the body. Where this method is a powerful way to reduce stress.

Dario Maestripieri, Professor of Comparative Human Development at the University of Chicago who is also the main author of the study, said that people who are not married and was committed to having a romantic relationship from that commitment.

They also showed a similar response in reducing stress. Similarly, people who are already married. Thus quoted The Times Of India on Saturday (21/08/2010).

"These results show that single people and couples who split up are more responsive to psychological stress, rather than individuals who are married. The evidence is consistent with findings that indicate growth and social support that marriage can be a stress buffer, "Maestripieri said.

In this study, a team of researchers from the University of Chicago and Northwestern University studied 500 students who enrolled master's degree at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Approximately 40 percent of men and 53 percent of the total female participants with the status has been married or are bound in a relationship. The group included 348 men with an average age of 29 and 153 women with an average age of 27.

The students were asked to play a series of computer games that test their economic behavior. Then, the saliva samples taken before and after the experiment, to measure hormone levels and changes.

Some students were told that this test is a requirement of the program, and placement will affect their future careers. The statement makes the tests undertaken into the experience of stress that potentially could affect cortisol levels (known as stress hormones).

As a result, the researchers found concentrations of cortisol increased in all participants. But the rate of change in women increased on average higher than men. This exercise also menurunankan testosterone in male subjects, but not in women.

"We found that the spouse of either sex (unmarried) had higher cortisol levels than individuals who have been married. Although the marriage is able to create stress, it will make it easier to cope with stress in their lives. What we find is that marriage has a damping effect on cortisol responses to psychological stress. And this (result) is very new, "Maestripieri said.
