Marrying for All the Wrong Reasons
Marrying for All the Wrong Reasons
Marrying for All the Wrong Reasons
A woman acquaintance wanted to marry so badly that she would go to jewelry stores and pick out rings every time she met a new guy.
She was picking out rings when guys just had one conversation with her.
They had never asked her out on a date and she was thinking MARRIAGE.
AND, she was thinking marriage with men who were not what anyone would call eligible...disabled on welfare, unemployed, abusive, married to someone else...whatever. She was ready for commitment...or maybe treatment.
It was weird. She wanted a wedding really badly...badly enough to put up with ANYTHING just so she could be married.
She finally actually married a guy who was abusive and horrid to her and their pets. They never got to children, but they would have suffered, too.
Most of us are not that desperate for marriage.
Believe me...being single is NOT the worst thing that can happen to you.
She was ready to marry just so she could have a ring and a wedding and be able to say she was married. It's not a good reason to marry, but there are some other bad reasons to marry.
Here are just a few.
1. "I want someone to take care of me." No you don't. You need to be able to take care of yourself. Come on, you can do it. You can even learn to balance your own checking account.
2. "I want a good mother or father for my children." You see people marry badly (for them) to someone they think will impress and fits their view of how they want the world to see them. Then they find out they can't stomach living with Mr. or Ms. Right.
3. "He or she is the best looking thing I've ever seen." You know what they say. Looks aren't everything. Get to know their heart and mind, too.
4. "It was love at first sight." And then you found out they had totally different values than you do. But it's too late. You're already married.
5. "It just seemed like the right time." And you just snapped up the nearest agreeable candidate because all your friends were getting married. Guys do this more than women.
6. "He or she seems perfect." Do they? And how do you know? Check them out if you don't know anyone who knows them well. People might just want your assets. I personally know two women who lost every dime they owned after getting a big bogus romance from a handsome stranger. I also know a man whose wife may have murdered him. Want to meet her? She's been married at least four times.
7. "He or she is very attentive." And controlling, selfish, difficult, obnoxious, insecure, narcissistic, needy...
Save yourself from the nightmare of a bad marriage.
Marriage can actually be a lot of fun. Choose your partner very carefully.
