Maruti Swift: Hayabusa To Incredible New Swift

India"s small car wizard, Maruti Suzuki India"s supremacy goes back to the year 1983 when the car maker started its innings in India

. Maruti has had the benefit of being the oldest player in the automotive segment; the iconic Maruti 800 was the solo performer of Maruti which reigned Indian roads for close to three decades before it retired. In the mid 90s, other car companies from across the world realised the potential of India"s automotive market and started heading towards the then not-so-popular auto souk, India. With other foreign brands coming to India, Maruti Suzuki India had to bring in more cars in the arena to fight out its competitors. The turning-point in the hatchback king Maruti"s innings was the launch of Maruti Swift in 2005. Maruti Swift is by far the most popular hatchback in India after Maruti 800 and Maruti Alto. The popularity of this hatch is unprecedented and can be seen by the number of Swift hatchbacks running on road. Swift"s evolution started in 1999 when Suzuki launched the world"s fastest motorcycle Suzuki Hayabusa. This mighty superbike is the inspiration behind the development of one of the most popular hatchbacks in India, Maruti Swift. After taking design cues from Hayabusa, it was given the form of a car, GSX-R/4 in 2001. This car borrowed its motor from Suzuki"s bike. The car hit the road in the same year with a DOHC engine. Within a year, GSX-R/4 was moulded to another concept known as the S concept. This concept with high technological adjustments and enhanced looks was then unveiled at the Paris Auto Show, ten years back in 2002. Year 2003 witnessed a modified and much better form of S concept, christened S-2 concept. S-2 concept was a much contemporary open-top convertible that infused an epoch of new driving experience. Eventually concept S was metamorphosed to Swift, which had a greater and better caliber on the back of which the hatchback went on to create history in the Indian automotive industry. The hatchback was intromitted with an advanced chassis, transmission and suspension system. The swanky hatchback was designed by an efficient team of 21 Indian designers and engineers who meticulously assessed and scrutinized the dimensions, designs, quality, performance and style of the concept S-2 vehicle and paved a new path to develop an impeccable hatchback. The carefully-crafted piece of engineering is indubitably the most ubiquitous car in India and remains till date a highly selling car in the domestic market. After introducing Swift in petrol trim, the company also rendered diesel avatar of Swift hatchback in 2007. Equipped with a DDIS mill and common rail direct injection technology, Swift diesel flaunts high performance, fuel economy and power. Maruti Swift Diesel is among the top selling hatchbacks in India which gives stiff competition to its contemporaries. In January 2008, Maruti gave a mild facelift to Swift that had more style, better features and delivered better performance. In 2010, Maruti took a huge leap and powered Swift petrol with a leaner, meaner and fitter Swift petrol affixed with an advanced K-Series petrol powertrain. In 2010 again, Maruti introduced the BS IV emission complied Maruti Swift diesel which returned enhanced fuel efficiency and supreme performance. Maruti celebrated the fifth anniversary of Swift with a bang and also registered its name in the Guinness World Records for organizing the largest parade of Swift cars. This historical record is registered by the name of Incredible Swift records of record. The immense demand for Maruti Swift hatchback and increasing competition led to another major facelift which the hatch received last year in the month of August. The sturdier and improved version of Swift offered better mileage and cutting edge performance. The new Swift is sharper, broader and longer, it delivers better performance and flaunts enhanced style. The new Swift is more swift, sportier and sturdier. Launched with a total of 150 new features, the new Swift broke all records by garnering 50,000 bookings by the day of its launch. The hatchback was recently proclaimed as the bestselling hatchback in India outpacing its sibling Maruti Alto. Swift without a doubt a jewel in Maruti India"s portfolio and we hope that it continues to keep its popularity intact in the Indian car market.
