Mattresses For Everyone
We recently moved into a new house, and in the process have disposed of a lot of our old furniture
. Most of it was worn out from years of use and abuse, but there was some of it that just didn't fit our new surroundings. While it is kind of nice not to have it cluttering our new space, the need for places to store items, for places to sit, and for places to work is becoming more and more obvious. No place is more evident than in our need for places to sleep.
We have four children, and one of the reasons for our desire to move to a new home was to be able to give them a little more space. We have two bedrooms upstairs and an unfinished basement downstairs that can easily be fitted to create more bedrooms. We've been considering a layout for that space to accommodate them as well as our other plans for the house. Once all of the bedrooms are squared away, we'll need furniture for them and some new beds. It's interesting to see how each child has a different type of mattress in mind.
My oldest daughter reads like a fairy tale. She wants a canopy bed with a mattress not too hard, not too soft. She loves being the princess, and her room and bedding will likely fall along those lines. Without asking her, I can more or less guess that she'll want pink sheets, drapes, quilts, and blankets to go along with the new ensemble. Luckily, my younger daughter isn't so picky. She is only three years old, and likes mummies. She falls asleep just about anywhere, but seems to do well in plush, fluffy pillows. For her bed, we'll probably go with a softer mattress and a lot of sheets. Both girls like a lot of space, so double beds or maybe queens would be the right choice.
The boys are another story. Like their dad, they seem to like solid surfaces. The mattress may as well be made of floorboards, but since that wouldn't be conducive to their long-term well-being, we'll go with something firm and more utilitarian. While my daughters seem to hog the bed, the boys more or less stay in one spot all night, so we can save ourselves some money and get single beds for them.
In any case, we have our work cut out for us. We moved to upgrade our lives, and with that, we now need to upgrade our lifestyles. The right mattresses will be a step in the right direction.
