Mbm Triumph 6550ep Paper Cutter Review

In this report, we will take a look at the MBM Triumph 6550EP paper cutter

. A large, accurate, heavy-duty paper cutting machine designed for use in high-volume copy and print shops and large organizations that do their own document production. Here are some of the 6550's strengths and weaknesses as we see them.

Strengths:

1.) We found the 6550 EP very easy to use and extremely accurate. All the user needs to do is to input the cut size on the keypad and the cutter's back gauge moves to the correct position. The cutter can be moved and placed in increments as tiny as one hundredth of an inch. You can even set it to operate on the metric system if you so desire. The 6550 EP also comes with a device to help the user ensure that the paper is flush against the back gauge and ready for cutting.

2.) The quantities that the 6550EP can cut at one time are very impressive. Stacks of documents up to three inches thick are no problem at all, and we've also found that we can use the 6550 EP to cut plastic covers and other such materials in medium to large stacks. You will want to be somewhat careful however, because if you somehow chip or damage the blade of the 6550 EP, replacing it will cost a few hundred dollars.

3.) Safety is of utmost importance when you are talking about such a powerful cutting machine, and we judge the 6550 EP to be extremely safe. There is a shield made of clear plastic placed in the back which will prevent the user from putting his or her hands under the blade when he or she is standing behind the table. Another safety shield must be placed in "down" position in order for the machine to cut, and requires that it be operated by both hands in order to activate the cutting mechanism.

Weaknesses:

1.) The 6550 EP presents the unprepared buyer with some assembly and installation issues. The machine weighs in at around eight hundred pounds and will need to be assembled upon arrival. After you have assembled the stand upon which it sits, you will need to make sure that you have enough people around to lift the cutter safely onto the stand. The box and cutter are so large that you will need to make sure that you have enough room and a doorway large enough to fit it through. Also, last but not least, the 6550 EP will require that you have a twenty-amp dedicated circuit to plug into.

2.) The 6550 EP makes great cuts, but to keep that quality up you will need to be sure that you replace and/or rotate the cutting sticks, and that you keep a sharp blade. It is never a bad idea to have an extra blade as well as a handful of cutting sticks around just in case.

3.) You should be aware that the 6550 EP offers a maximum twenty five and a half inch cutting width. While this will be quite enough for the vast majority of cutting jobs, there are some paper stocks that are 26" x 40", these large sheets will need to be pre-cut in order for the 6550 EP to handle them.

4.) We could not find a way to adjust the pressure bar on this paper cutter, and this sometimes led to the materials getting marked up a little bit. An easy solution we found was to place a chip board on top of the stack we were cutting.
