Men in Divorce: How they Cope

They say men have it pretty easy in a divorce situation

. Research show that women are taking a greater share of coping with the divorce, as they are faced with child care issues, financial issues, and stress due to the situation. However, men are also faced with issues after a divorce, and they are not excused from child responsibilities and the stress women are going through.

At present, matters on visitation or custody rights for fathers are being violated since mostly women are given full custody of children during a divorce or separation. This is considered the norm, and even the law provides that children below seven (7) years of age should stay with the mother. There are some organizations saying that judges are giving less sympathy to fathers who are trying to enforce their own custody and visitation rights. Along this line, male fathers suffer loneliness and stress due to the situation and circumstances that revolve around divorce. Experts say that divorced men suffer from depression twice as much as married men, while the same is not so for women who have gone through marriage and divorce.

On the other hand, some men can also cope easily from this unfortunate circumstance as they tend to seek means towards recovery. They tend to move to new place, find a new job, look for a new partner, marry again or just stay and find contentment with the current situation of living alone. More people would say that even if acceptance is difficult, other male individuals are easily coping with divorce, separation and the stress it causes.

Today, divorce is considered an option for separation due to irreconcilable differences of married couples. Divorce is the legal process between married people who are looking to a means to an end to their marital relationship.
