Metabolism - Can Yours Do With A Boost?
You may wonder if a boost is needed to your metabolism
. You are starting to hear this word more and more as its role in keeping us slim and healthy is becoming more known about. Your metabolism is essentially your body's engine and it converts the food you eat into energy so you can remain alive.
Whether you would like to lose some weight or would like to feel more energetic, more alert, vital and alive it is always a benefit to boost your metabolism to a higher rate. A sluggish one can cause you to gain weight and feel low in energy. This is because you are likely to be storing excess fuel (calories) as fat as you are unable to burn up the food you eat for energy. This makes our engine slow down.
To get right down to the problem with all this it is all about your body composition (muscle/fat ratio). If you have not been doing enough muscle building and maintaining activity it is likely that this ratio has changed negatively. It is this ratio of your body composition that determines how you look, how you feel, how much energy you have, if you become overweight or stay slim, how fast or slow you age and the level of your disease risk which is pretty important as you get older.
So you want your metabolism to be in tip top condition so you can control all of these factors so you can live your life to the fullest. If your body composition has swung a little the wrong way (more fat/less muscle) the only way to get it back how it should be the only way to do it is to strengthen your muscular system and the way to do this is with a proper exercise program made up of mostly strength training exercise.
By losing the fat and toning up your muscles through strength training, you can make a pleasing transformation to your body in many ways. You will not lose much bodyweight on the bathroom scale but you will feel and look firmer and slimmer.
The bottom line is any person who is interested in slowing the aging process, losing excess body fat, gaining strength, increasing muscle tone, restoring energy levels, wants disease protection and to feel and look a million bucks should be strength training.
If you are not sure about what you need to do, just go along to your local gym or fitness center and they will get you started with proper instruction so you can make progress quickly. Strength training is working your muscles against a resistance and long, slow endurance activities like walking, cycling, swimming and other forms of recreational activities will not do the job...not ever.
If you do your program 2-3 times each week, in just a few months you will not believe how much of a difference it will make in your life. You will sleep better, feel and look better and have more energy to be able to do more things that you enjoy. Think of it as giving your engine a tune up and the benefits of that will rub off in dozens of different aspects of your life. Other people will wonder what your secret is.
