Michigan to get funds to clean 47 former auto sites


Michigan will get $800 million to restructure the old motor factories. The former auto units will be re-developed to make it productive and to create new jobs. The announcements regarding the investments of sanctioned funds were made by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm at a meeting in the week.

The funds will be distributed amongst ninety former sites which are located in fourteen states but the highest amount will be invested in Michigan which has forty seven of the ninety sites. The site of Michigan in the list includes Detroit, Bay City, Flint, Lansing, Burton, Lansing Twp., Livonia, Pontiac, Mt. Morris, Romulus, Van Buren Twp., Saginaw, Wyoming and Ypsilanti.

As per the latest reports released by Detroit News the site of Buick City in Flint will be the first site which will be cleaned up for redevelopment. The site was abandoned in 1999.Congressman John Dingell said these projects are well timed decision which will help the people to get back to jobs in the areas hardest hit by economic recession.The manufacturing process at these abandoned sites will be used to create jobs in wind turbines, solar plants or battery production.Michigan To Get Funds To Clean 47 Former Auto Sites


New job opportunities in Detroit


Michigan will get almost $99.4 million in new investment through four major redevelopment projects which will also create 910 jobs and city of Detroit will get approximately $4.1 million to support one of the four major projects backed by Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Grandpapas Inc. is a company specializing in the production, packaging and shipping of snacks, and it will invest $4.1 million to renovate a 130,000-square-foot factory in Detroit.The new project will create 269 jobs which includes 125 by the company .The board of Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) approved the state tax credit of value $368,358 for five years to support the project.

Other projects brought by MEDC to Michigan are ConAgra Foods Packaged Foods LLC (known for packaged food) that will start its branch in Kemwood, Proto Manufacturing Inc. (Developer of aerospace and alternative energy) will invest in Taylor and TK Holdings Inc. (automatic safety) will invest in Auburn Hills. The total investment made by ConAgra Foods Packaged Foods LLC will be $73 million and it will create 460 jobs. Proto Manufacturing Inc. will create 88 jobs and it plans to invest $5.2 million and TK Holdings Inc will invest $14.6 million and create 78 jobs.
